Shouting at the Screen

  • Alamo Drafthouse

Back in the days before live-tweeting, the only way to express your thoughts while watching a movie was to yell them out loud to the delight of your friends, and the disgust of the old people two rows in front of you.

Wyatt Cenac (Night Train) and Donwill (Tanya Morgan) invite you to join them as they recreate the magic of Magic Johnson theaters and guide you through the wonderful world of blaxploitaton and black cult cinema.

Each month, Wyatt and Donwill screen a fine film specimen from yesteryear, egging you on from the peanut gallery as the non-‐foam Statler and Waldorf. Each screening starts with a presentation of obscure trivia and the fun continues with drinking games throughout the film.

Selected Shorts: The Best of the Harvard Lampoon: 140 Years of American Humor

  • Peter Jay Sharp Theatre

Selected Shorts is produced by Symphony Space and broadcast on more than 150 stations around the country. The Selected Shorts podcast consistently ranks as one of the most popular podcasts on iTunes. The series began in 1985 and enjoys sold-out performances to this day. Selected Shorts was conceived with a simple premise: take great stories by well-known and emerging writers and have them performed by terrific actors of stage and screen. Featuring stories around a lively theme, the favorite works of a guest author, or a special collaboration, each Selected Shorts event is a unique night of literature in performance.

Performers including Wyatt Cenac (Night Train) Erinn Hayes (Children's Hospital), Richard Masur (Transparent), Michael Emerson (Person of Interest), Alysia Reiner (Orange Is the New Black), Bernadette Quigley (Mr. Robot), and Zuzanna Szadkowski (Gossip Girl), read a hilarious assortment of comic fiction from a new collection of hidden gems from the spawning ground for Hollywood’s elite comedy writers and New Yorker humorists. With appearances by former staff writers Patricia Marx, Paul Simms, Kurt Andersen, and Jonathan Adler.

Premium tickets are available and include a $50 tax-deductible donation to Symphony Space.
